EVENT: Tutti i colori di Obama Book Signing with Author Matteo Ceschi :: Milan, Italy :: Nov 6th

For our Italian people, who unlike some Presidential hopefuls, we adore, Matteo Ceschi will be hosting a signing of his book, "Tutti i colori di Obama: L’altra storia delle elezioni americane (All the Colors of Obama. The Other History of American Elections)" on election day, November 6th.

"The rise of Senator Barack Obama and the affirmation of a post-racial and post-ethnic approach to society led me to investigate the roots of this position, discovering exceptional figures like the comedian and political activist Dick Gregory and the Democratic Representative, Shirley Chisholm, who had campaigned in the Democratic primaries for the presidency back in the late ‘60s and the ‘70s. I discovered the Rev. Jesse Jackson...his story grabbed me, just as Spike Lee, Malcom X and the Black Panthers had done...I followed their human and political adventures step by step..."

~ Matteo Ceschi

In honor of this very special day, artists Rodney Jackson and Grey Williamson produced a poster for Mr. Ceschi's event.

Tutti i colori di Obama poster by Rodney Jackson

Both the cover of Mr. Ceschi's book and Mr. Jackson's poster feature the Renegade Obama bust by Grey Willamson and Kilroy III. The poster was featured on Design for Obama

Although we'd love to be at Mr. Ceschi's book signing, we have an important task to do today. We will be posting pictures of his event soon. Tutti i colori di Obama is available from the publisher, Franco Angeli Editore (www.francoangeli.it).

Read more of our fascinating interview of Matteo... he shares shares his inspiration, highlights and challenges while researching and writing "Tutti i colori di Obama."

Thanks for reading!

A unique art movement has emerged combining the dynamic and interrelated worlds of comics, anime and hip-hop, with the elements of modern cinema. This movement celebrates its multi-cultural, international influence on science fiction, action and adventure and other confluences within and surrounding present day artistic culture.

This movement is defined by an inspired, original approach to existing media that redefines the media itself.

Rocko RocketIn the spirit of this, I call this new genre Donu in tribute to the famed hip-hop producer J Dilla whose last work, the magnum opus Donutsleft an indelible mark on that industry.

Donu also makes reference to Katsuhiro Otomo’s masterpiece Domu. Katsuhiro Otomo has not only revolutionized anime in Japan but also redefined animation storytelling in the global entertainment environment.

PlanetRock is the third in a series of shows called DonuPop. These shows are designed to give the Donu Movment space within the context in of pop art.

SPOTLIGHT: Rodney Jackson | Hip Pop Art | DONŪ

Rodney Jackson

SPOTLIGHT: RODNEY JACKSON

Rodney Jackson attended The New World School of the Arts and received the only full scholarship offered that year by the Maryland Institute College of Art.

For the past fourteen years, he has been infusing traditional and contemporary art with elements of Japanese animation and Hip-Hop, placing his own personal stamp on a new pop aesthetic which comprises what many believe is the core of the new millennium cultural movement.

HIP POP ART: The Visual Documentation and Preservation of Hip Hop

Kool Moe Dee by R. Jackson

Rodney is currently developing what he refers to as ”Hip Pop Art”, where he uses stylized portraiture to document Hip Hop’s transition into popular culture.

Malcolm Big Red by R. JacksonHis most recent work uses photos and textiles to highlight the labor class of people as they carve their place into the fabric of American culture. This production has been placed on exhibit at the annual international festival, Art Basel Miami.

TURN, TURN, TURN: The Artistic Synthesis of Vinyl to Art

The Guardian of Vinyl by R. JacksonThe Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center of Fort Myers, Florida, hosted "TURN, TURN, TURN" where Rene Miville, coordinator and promotor, donated over 30,000 vinyl records for the project.

Miami pop artist Rodney Jackson was just one of more than two dozen artists statewide challenged with turning vinyl records of yesterday into creative masterpieces of today.

Jackson constructed a 16 foot robot out of records and album covers and received "Best in Show" for his "Guardian of Vinyl."

"I'm a music lover. I collect vinyls so having the opportunity to take vinyl and turn it into art was the first thing that really stuck out," said Jackson.
