THE ETHYR

"There are two parts to creation, to what we are… conceptualization and consummation, both fired by inspiration. The best part, the essence, of what we do exists in The Ethyr... The vein, once tapped, is forever changed."

SOUND: Asen James of Foco Moto | Henny Float Album | Music is Words

Artist, music producer, lyricist, Asen James, aka The Rebel A, of Foco Moto.

Directed by Rich Williams, Foco Moto dropped "No Maybes" on YouTube back in 2009. Three years later... it is still timeless...

We've been fortunate enough to work with this man on multiple projects including the theme songs to Val-Mar, Prince of the Damned and The Legend of Apollo. "The Other End," "V.S.O.P." and "No Maybes" were used as the soundtracks to our Virtual Baby Shower Games (Word Scramble, Nursery Rhyme Rhetoric) and our Castle Grayskull Igloo Tributes (Day 3, Rise and Fall). Yeah...can you say versatile? Guess we've been inspired...

Get your mind right and download the FREE Henny Float album and tell us what you think? Or better yet, tweet the artist himself --> The Rebel A

"Made to accompany the drink it's named after, "Henny Float (vanilla)" is comprised of 18 subtle gems. Intentionally minimal, with some of its grooves carved out of hits from the past, Henny is anything but sparse or familiar. For example on track 10 "tryinna tell ya" you'll find elements of DeBarge, Chet Baker and Barrington Levy living beautifully together under one roof."

All songs were produced and mixed by Asen James and sequenced by Rich Williams.

The music is enough to transport you to a better place... but, just in case you want to take it to a whole nuva lebel... The Rebel A was kind enough to include a recipe for a Henny Float... it serves 2 so be prepared...

  • 4 scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • 2 shots (3 ounces) of Henny
  • whipped cream (optional)

Visit Foco Moto to hear his more recent remixes, "manwomanboogie" and "Rock Wit You."

Ready to experience his genius live? The Rebel A spins at the Nova Bar in Brooklyn every Friday with his partner, Ant Marshall of The Lyricist Lounge

And this is just a sample of The Rebel A's body of work...

Music is words...

SPOTLIGHT: Gotham City Lounge | Where Heroes Gather | Brooklyn, Baby

Discovered a comic book-themed bar around the way in Bushwick, Brooklyn. You can't miss it. The exterior wall features a life-size mural of Batman and Superman.

The owner, Ray Torrellas, informed us that the lounge is located under the subway train where the movie, The Warriors was shot.

Brooklyn Independent Television (BIT) profiled the bar last year:

Drink and Draw in Brooklyn anyone?

Guess we'll have to ask Mr. Randolph if he'll want to come out and play-i-ay...

SPOTLIGHT: The Rise & Fall of Castle Grayskull Igloo: Kilroy III Was Here in Bed-Stuy

As promised... a follow up tribute to all who showed love for our Castle Grayskull igloo... It's been almost a year since Snowmageddon 2011...

Who knows what 2012 will bring?

Incredibly, Grayskull lasted a total of 24 days... To see how the story ends, watch the complete tribute on YouTube below:

Or, view at your own pace on our Facebook album.

Music? Yes. Music. The Grayskull tribute on YouTube was set to Asen James' "No Maybes." The Henny Float album is on a whole... nuva... lebel...

I heard a snow storm is heading our way any day now...

SPOTLIGHT: Snowmageddon Spawns Castle Grayskull by Kilroy III & Friends | Brooklyn Igloo

Kilroy III | The Architect and Sculptor of Castle GrayskullMetal, wax and resin are not the only mediums in which this sculptor works... Kilroy III, with the assistance of his family and friends, sculpted Castle GrayskullHe-Man's fortress from Mattel's comic Masters of the Universe, out of three-plus-feet of snow from Brooklyn's latest snowmageddon.

This is not his first Castle Grayskull... His first was constructed with childhood friends from his hometown in Ohio circa the early 1990's.

Fairborn Daily Herald: Castle Grayskull circa 1994

When asked why he decided to try it again, Kilroy mentioned the amount and texture of snow as primary factors. His friends believe his sculpting skills have improved since then...

The interior includes two chairs carved into each wing of the castle.  Three to four adults could easily fit inside.

Early pics of the castle show Kilroy III hauling snow over the castle (from the front to the back) and standing on a ladder to sculpt the turrets.

The other dedicated team members would periodically run into the house to warm their hands and feet before continuing the arduous work of shoveling, packing, coring and sculpting snow and ice.  Selina Ki was inspired by the architecture of the church across the street, Our Lady of Victory, and incorporated some of the details in her stone work on the castle.

Fizz and Kigi guarded the castle with a watchful eye.

Guardians: Fizz & KigiAn additional factor for success were the tools used by Kilroy III and friends. A Korean soup bowl and spoon... great for smoothing snow and etching details... and eating spicy Shin ramyun...

Neighbors kindly offered their tools and words of encouragement throughout the two days of construction of Castle Grayskull.  Many volunteered to assist in building an extension during the next snowmageddon, assuming the castle survives...

Kilroy III was grateful for the exercise and the opportunity to have some fun with family, friends and neighbors. He encourages all who took pictures of the castle to share them with him and his crew on Facebook, Twitter or Flickr.

ABOUT KILROY III

Kilroy III earned his degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in Sculpture from the University of Pennsylvania. He made his professional debut at Carbon-Fibre Media with his work on the Apollo, Val-Mar and Renegade Obama busts and sculptures.

Kilroy III launched Kilroy's Attic to house his own creations including dragon crossbow rings, puzzle lockets, knuckle dusters, skulls and a hungry hungry hippo mech ring. It is a tiny space to challenge one’s perceptions and to share a human touch.
